Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage or MLD consists of a very light, rhythmical massage, which mechanically encourages the drainage of lymph from the peripheries, via the nodes, to where it enters the blood stream. (There is no heart to pump the fluid - normal circulation relies on muscle movements and respiration). As the lymphatic system constitutes an important part of the immune system, to encourage the transport of pathogenic substances to the lymph nodes where they are inactivated, strengthens our resistance to disease. It can effectively assist in any detoxification program. It is particularly indicated where the lymph circulation has been impaired by cancer, radiotherapy, disease, surgery etc. (consult your physician). Management will involve advice, massage, self-massage, possible bandaging and exercises as necessary.
